Chambre was born in Northumberland and rose to be physician to Henry VII and Henry VIII (as Peter of Newcastle had been to Edward I in 1298). Chambre was one of the six founding Fellows of the College of Physicians in 1518 and was Censor of the College in 1523,. He was warden of Merton College at Oxford 1525-44.
