THOMAS COBDEN-SANDERSON (1840 - 1922)

Born in Alnwick, he was a lawyer by training but became a leader of the 19th century revival of artistic typography, working with William Morris. In 1900, he founded the Doves Press in Hammersmith, from which he issued the beautiful Doves Bible (1903). In 1916 the press closed and he threw the type into the Thames.
