EDWARD GRIERSON (1914 - 1975)

Grierson was a Northumberland barrister whose crime novels include Reputation for a Song (1952); The Second Man (1956), which won the Golden Dagger award; The Massingham Affair (1962), filmed and televised, and A Crime of One’s Own (1967). Julian Symons writes of Reputation for a Song: ‘The exposure of a family skeleton in the household of a country solicitor leads to murder, and then comes the account of a trial, done with great skill and assurance. This is an outstandingly interesting account of crime as it is committed and endured.’

Grierson also wrote the Companion Guide to Northumberland. He describes the Tweed:

The Tweed is a beautiful river throughout its length and the scene at Union Bridge is nothing less than idyllic.
