JOHN OF TINMOUTH (fl. 1366) A native of Tynemouth, he was vicar of the town for some time before becoming a monk at St Albans, of which Tynemouth priory was a cell. John was the author of Historia Aurea a Creatione ad Tempus Edwardi III. This apparently ended in 1347, though one copy at St Albans seems to continue to 1377. He also produced other works including a book of martyrs and the Sanctilogia Servorum Dei, a collection of saints' lives. His Nova Legenda Anglie contains a life of Aelred of Rievaulx (q.v.). John is also credited with expositions on various books of the Bible.
