JOHN MALVERNE (d. 1422) Malverne was a priest, indeed a prebendary at St Paul's in 1405, as well as physician to King Henry V. Appropriately, he was the author of De Remediis Spiritualibus et Corporalibus. In 1416, he exchanged his canonry of St George at Windsor for the wardenship of the free chapel of St Mary the Virgin in Jesmond, Newcastle. Pilgrim Street is supposedly so called because it led to the shrine.
